DESCRIPTION
An exceptional Queen Anne walnut hanging corner cupboard dating from the early 18th century, retaining its original bevelled mirror plate, candle slide, lock and key. Designed to fit neatly into the corner of a room, it features an architectural moulded and arched cornice above a single arched mirrored door opening to reveal three fixed shelves.
The cupboard is veneered in well-figured walnut with attractive colour and patination developed over more than three centuries. The original mirror plate, with its characteristic age-related foxing, enhances both its decorative appeal and historical authenticity. Beneath the door is a rare and desirable pull-out candle slide, allowing the mirror to be illuminated when in use.
Early hanging corner cupboards of this quality are becoming increasingly difficult to find, particularly examples retaining their original mirror, working lock and key, and candle slide. It is an elegant and highly decorative piece of English furniture, equally suited to a period interior or as a statement piece in a contemporary setting.

CONDITION
There are the expected marks, scratches and small chips commensurate with over 300 years of age and use. The walnut veneers display minor historic movement and small opening to some joints, together with evidence of old, inactive worm. The original mirror plate has attractive age-related foxing and a small crack to the upper right corner. The cupboard retains its original lock with a working key and remains solid, structurally sound and ready for use.

ABOUT ALSO
Thank you for viewing this piece from ALSO Antiques.
We carefully select antique furniture and decorative objects for their quality, craftsmanship, character and individuality. Our tastes are broad, and we’re happy to be led by the piece rather than a particular period or style. Above all, we choose things we genuinely admire and would be happy to have in our own home.
Every item is individually inspected, researched and professionally photographed, with clear descriptions and honest condition reports to help you buy with confidence.
We believe good furniture should have a long life. Choosing antique keeps well-made furniture and existing materials in use, and we favour sympathetic restoration that preserves the patina and character acquired over generations.

AUTHENTICITY & CONDITION
We strive to describe every item as accurately and honestly as possible. Statements regarding age, attribution, origin and provenance are offered in good faith and represent our professional opinion based on the information available at the time of listing.
As all of our items are antique or vintage, signs of age and use should be expected. Old repairs, knocks, wear, variations in colour and other minor imperfections are often part of a piece’s history and character. Where condition affects its integrity, appearance or usefulness, we will endeavour to make this clear in the description.
