DESCRIPTION

This is a pretty Dutch wall-hanging glazed display cabinet dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. The whole finely decorated with inlaid floral marquetry motifs typical of the craftmanship of the period, a single door opening to reveal a velvet-lined interior with two fixed, shaped shelves. The broken-arch pediment, detail of the marquetry, and elegant astragal glazing all reflect the refined tastes of late 18th-century Dutch interiors. An elegant survivor, this cabinet would have originally served as a display for porcelain or precious objects. A wonderful addition to any period home or decorative collection.

DIMENSIONS

73cm high x 68cm wide x 21cm deep

CONDITION

There are marks, knocks and repairs commensurate with age and use. There are several minor losses to the inlay and it has probably sustained a knock to the pediment/ cornice above the door at some point as the splits and losses are focussed around this area. One or more panes of glass are replacements but it appears to be period glass. There is no working key but the door stows securely with friction when hanging vertically, and we can provide a decorative key to act as a door pull. The piece is structurally sound and attractive.
