DESCRIPTION

A magnificent large gilt-metal and glass hall lantern, dating from the 20th century and of impressive scale at approximately 126cm high.

Of tapering hexagonal form, the lantern is constructed around six glass panels, each decorated with delicate star-cut detail. The richly ornamented gilt-metal frame features scrolling foliate cresting, shell motifs and particularly attractive swagged leaf decoration suspended around the upper section.

The lantern is surmounted by an elaborate openwork corona of scrolling foliage, while the lower section terminates in further scrolling ornament and a decorative pendant finial. Internally it is fitted with a multi-light arrangement in traditional candle form.

The gilt finish has mellowed attractively, giving the piece considerable decorative character without detracting from the elaborate detailing.

An unusually large and impressive lantern which would make a superb statement piece in a hallway, stairwell, entrance hall or other room with a generous ceiling height.

DIMENSIONS

CONDITION

Good overall condition with general minor marks, rubbing, tarnishing and wear to the gilt finish consistent with age and use. The glass appears in good condition. The lantern is wired for electricity. As it is a vintage/pre-owned electrical fitting, we recommend that it is inspected and installed by a suitably qualified electrician before use. Overall, a very impressive and highly decorative lantern with a pleasingly aged gilt finish and considerable presence.

As an antique or vintage piece, signs of age and use should be expected and are part of its character. The photographs form an important part of the description and should be viewed alongside the written condition report. If you would like further information or additional photographs, we are always happy to help before purchase. If any dimensions are critical, please check these with us before purchasing.
