DESCRIPTION
An elegant late 19th/early 20th century George III-style painted and parcel-gilt pier or console table, of particularly attractive long, narrow proportions.
The shaped veneered top has rounded ends and a crossbanded border, above a painted fluted frieze decorated with carved gilt and painted paterae and a central swag motif. The table is raised on four slender tapering and fluted supports, continuing the restrained neoclassical design.
The combination of the warm timber top with the softly aged painted and gilt decoration gives the table a particularly decorative appearance. At only 45cm deep, it would work very well as a hall, drawing-room or entrance console where a full-depth table would be impractical.
DIMENSIONS
Height: 81 cm
Width: 131 cm
Depth: 45cm
CONDITION
The table is in good decorative condition overall, with marks, knocks, rubbing and wear commensurate with age and use.
There is age-related wear and some losses to the painted and gilt decoration, together with marks and repairs to the veneered top. The aged decoration and areas of wear form part of its attractive decorative character.

ABOUT ALSO
Thank you for viewing this piece from Also Antique Furniture.
We carefully select antique furniture and decorative objects for their quality, craftsmanship, character and individuality. Our tastes are broad, and we’re happy to be led by the piece rather than a particular period or style. Above all, we choose things we genuinely admire and would be happy to have in our own home.
Every item is individually inspected, researched and professionally photographed, with clear descriptions and honest condition reports to help you buy with confidence.
We believe good furniture should have a long life. Choosing antique keeps well-made furniture and existing materials in use, and we favour sympathetic restoration that preserves the patina and character acquired over generations.

AUTHENTICITY & CONDITION
We strive to describe every item as accurately and honestly as possible. Statements regarding age, attribution, origin and provenance are offered in good faith and represent our professional opinion based on the information available at the time of listing.
As all of our items are antique or vintage, signs of age and use should be expected. Old repairs, knocks, wear, variations in colour and other minor imperfections are often part of a piece’s history and character. Where condition affects its integrity, appearance or usefulness, we will endeavour to make this clear in the description.
