DESCRIPTION

A striking French-inspired six-light chandelier, combining carved wood, gilt metal and contrasting black-painted metal. The chandelier is centred by a turned and carved wooden stem with gilt detailing, surrounded by decorative gilt-metal foliate mounts. Eight scrolling black-painted metal branches radiate from the body, each terminating in a gilt foliate drip pan and bulb holder. Further scrolling gilt foliage and floral ornament give the chandelier a particularly rich and decorative appearance.

The combination of warm gilt and carved wood with the black scrolling arms is particularly effective and gives the piece a strong French neoclassical / Empire-inspired character. The chandelier is suspended from a chain, allowing the overall hanging height to be adjusted to suit the room.

DIMENSIONS

Diameter: 62cm

Height: 70cm excluding chain

CONDITION

The chandelier is in good decorative condition overall, with marks, rubbing, knocks and wear commensurate with age and use. There is some wear and variation to the gilt and painted finishes. The candle sleeve/covers are absent and replacements will be required. The chandelier is wired for electricity; however, the wiring has not been tested and must be inspected and, if necessary, replaced by a suitably qualified electrician before installation or use.

As an antique or vintage piece, signs of age and use should be expected and are part of its character. The photographs form an important part of the description and should be viewed alongside the written condition report. If you would like further information or additional photographs, we are always happy to help before purchase. If any dimensions are critical, please check these with us before purchasing.

    ABOUT ALSO

Thank you for viewing this piece from ALSO Antiques.

We carefully select antique furniture and decorative objects for their quality, craftsmanship, character and individuality. Our tastes are broad, and we’re happy to be led by the piece rather than a particular period or style. Above all, we choose things we genuinely admire and would be happy to have in our own home.

Every item is individually inspected, researched and professionally photographed, with clear descriptions and honest condition reports to help you buy with confidence.

We believe good furniture should have a long life. Choosing antique keeps well-made furniture and existing materials in use, and we favour sympathetic restoration that preserves the patina and character acquired over generations.

    DELIVERY & COLLECTION

    Collection is welcome by arrangement.

We can usually arrange delivery throughout mainland UK using trusted independent furniture couriers, charged at cost. As a general guide, delivery for an average-sized chest of drawers is typically £80–£100. Larger items and more remote locations will incur higher charges.

Most deliveries are completed within approximately two weeks, although faster delivery may sometimes be available. Standard delivery is to the ground floor unless otherwise agreed, and the courier will normally contact you in advance with the proposed delivery arrangements.

    AUTHENTICITY & CONDITION

We strive to describe every item as accurately and honestly as possible. Statements regarding age, attribution, origin and provenance are offered in good faith and represent our professional opinion based on the information available at the time of listing.

As all of our items are antique or vintage, signs of age and use should be expected. Old repairs, knocks, wear, variations in colour and other minor imperfections are often part of a piece’s history and character. Where condition affects its integrity, appearance or usefulness, we will endeavour to make this clear in the description.
