This is an attractive 19th century Italian centre table circa 1880, profusely decorated with detailed marquetry work in a combination of contrasting woods. The rectangular top with a central panel depicting a classical Roman charioteer scene, most likely depicting the celebrated Roman charioteer Gaius Appuleius Diocles (fl. post 146 AD), framed by scrolling foliate inlay and geometric borders above a well-turned knopped column similarly adorned with intricate banded inlay, raised on four scrolling legs, also embellished with decorative inlaid detailing.

There are light water marks, knocks and scratches commensurate with age and use. There are some small veneer repairs. There is a small amount of historic woodworm to the central column and legs. Historically would have been tilt-top but now fixed. In attractive overall condition retaining good patina with minor wear consistent with age.
