This is an elegant 19th century French Boulle work ebonised jardinière side table. The galleried top with lift-out lid above the apron with boulle and inset with Sèvres-style painted porcelain plaques, raised on turned and fluted supports united by a wavy cross stretcher with central urn.
19th century French boulle ebonised jardinière
81cm high x 75cm wide and 45cm wide deep.
There are scratches, marks and knocks commensurate with age and use. There are moderate losses to the boulle work, including losses to all of the inlay of lift-out lid and part of the foliate scrollwork of the apron on some sides. There is some wear to the brass and ebonised finish on the sides and a historic wear to the join between one of the stretchers and the central section. The plant liner that would have sat under the lid is missing. Overall fair cosmetic condition (‘faded grandeur!’) but still attractive and structurally sound.
