DESCRIPTION
An attractive 18th-century oak chest of drawers, with a particularly decorative geometric moulded front. The rectangular moulded top sits above four graduated long drawers, each applied with bold geometric mouldings and fitted with brass drop handles and pierced escutcheons. The chest has panelled sides and stands on stile feet enclosed by shaped brackets. The warm oak, substantial proportions and architectural drawer fronts give the chest considerable character. A handsome and practical piece of early country furniture, offering generous storage and displaying very well.
DIMENSIONS
Height: 92 cm
Width: 95 cm
Depth: 57 cm
CONDITION
Solid and stable, with all four drawers running smoothly. The chest has undergone significant historic restoration and alteration, including refinishing. The original side-hung drawer runners have been removed and replaced with runners beneath the drawers. The bracket feet and brassware are later. There are some losses and replacements to the applied geometric mouldings, with a few sections not fitting or aligning perfectly, possibly following earlier removal and reattachment. There is a small amount of historic woodworm to the top, together with some staining, marks, knocks and general wear commensurate with age and use.
Overall, a handsome and substantial 18th-century chest which remains very usable and retains plenty of period character despite its historic alterations.
As an antique or vintage piece, signs of age and use should be expected and are part of its character. The photographs form an important part of the description and should be viewed alongside the written condition report. ABOUT ALSO ANTIQUE FURNITURE
Thank you for viewing this piece from Also Antique Furniture.
We carefully select antique furniture and decorative objects for their quality, craftsmanship, character and individuality. Our tastes are broad, and we’re happy to be led by the piece rather than a particular period or style. Above all, we choose things we genuinely admire and would be happy to have in our own home.
Every item is individually inspected, researched and professionally photographed, with clear descriptions and honest condition reports to help you buy with confidence.
We believe good furniture should have a long life. Choosing antique keeps well-made furniture and existing materials in use, and we favour sympathetic restoration that preserves the patina and character acquired over generations.

AUTHENTICITY & CONDITION
We strive to describe every item as accurately and honestly as possible. Statements regarding age, attribution, origin and provenance are offered in good faith and represent our professional opinion based on the information available at the time of listing.
As all of our items are antique or vintage, signs of age and use should be expected. Old repairs, knocks, wear, variations in colour and other minor imperfections are often part of a piece’s history and character. Where condition affects its integrity, appearance or usefulness, we will endeavour to make this clear in the description.
