This is a handsome 19th century French Empire walnut tall chest of drawers/ Wellington chest. The top with a moulded edge above a lift-flap compartment modelled as two dummy drawer fronts with pull-out support, above two single drawers with hinged drop-flap front, above four standard drawers. The drawers with brass lion head ring-drop handles and shield escutcheons. The locks are present and appear to be original, and the piece comes with two large working keys.
French Empire walnut tall chest of drawers
162cm high x 84cm wide x 63cm deep
There are light scratches, marks and knocks commensurate with age and use. There are some splits and bubbling to the veneer due to historic movement, largely confined to the top drawer front. The veneer appears to be stable. There are some minor splits to the sides which have been closed and stabilised with blocks on the inside of the chest. The drawers run smoothly, as do the lift/ drop flaps. Overall the piece is in attractive and usable condition.
