This is an unusual antique 18th century French chestnut buffet. It has a shaped and geometric-moulded backboard with three niche-shelves hung with a pewter cistern. The cistern has a shaped lid with detachable screw handles and the body features an engraved crowned armorial and two brass taps. There is a shaped pewter sink stamped with a gryphon mark supported by a cupboard base with moulded top and drawer above a single geometric-moulded door enclosing shelves. The drawer and base cupboard are well-lined with fabric.

There are marks, knocks and repairs consistent with age and use. There is evidence of historic woodworm throughout, notably to the lower part of the cupboard (front and sides) although the timber appears robust. There is a small split to the back of the sink at the top and repairs to the cistern (where one of the taps joins the lid) and sink (rear joints). One of the detachable tap heads is missing. The door needs lifting slightly to close it as there is play in the hinges. The timber joints appear sound and the drawer moves freely. Both the drawer and door are formed of extremely thick timber. There is a modern lock with working key.

Although we do everything possible to ensure that items arrive safely, we cannot be held responsible for damage incurred after items leave our premises.

Collections are welcomed by prior arrangement from our address in Worcestershire.
