DESCRIPTION
A particularly attractive 18th-century Dutch walnut and marquetry serpentine side table, finely decorated throughout with scrolling floral and foliate inlay. The shaped top is centred by an elaborate marquetry composition of flowers and foliage, arranged within a decorative border and set against the rich, dark walnut ground. The serpentine front incorporates a single drawer, similarly decorated with trailing leafy branches and fitted with three attractive brass mounts. Further marquetry detail continues onto the shaped apron and upper sections of the legs, the table standing on four elegant, slender tapering supports. The combination of the sinuous serpentine form, finely worked marquetry and beautifully aged walnut gives the table considerable decorative presence. It has developed a particularly rich colour and patina, with the signs of age adding to rather than detracting from its character.
A charming and highly decorative piece of Dutch furniture, of useful proportions as a side, occasional or lamp table.

CONDITION
The table is structurally sound, with a particularly pleasing colour and well-developed patina. The drawer runs smoothly and retains what appear to be its original brass fittings. There is a historic horizontal split extending across the top, visible through the marquetry, together with the expected light marks, scratches and staining associated with considerable age and use, particularly around the frieze and legs. There is also evidence of a small amount of historic woodworm, principally around the rear left support. Overall, a very attractive and characterful table, retaining a wonderful rich colour, elegant proportions and exceptionally decorative marquetry.

ABOUT ALSO ANTIQUE FURNITURE
Thank you for viewing this piece from Also Antique Furniture.
We carefully select antique furniture and decorative objects for their quality, craftsmanship, character and individuality. Our tastes are broad, and we’re happy to be led by the piece rather than a particular period or style. Above all, we choose things we genuinely admire and would be happy to have in our own home.
Every item is individually inspected, researched and professionally photographed, with clear descriptions and honest condition reports to help you buy with confidence.
We believe good furniture should have a long life. Choosing antique keeps well-made furniture and existing materials in use, and we favour sympathetic restoration that preserves the patina and character acquired over generations.

AUTHENTICITY & CONDITION
We strive to describe every item as accurately and honestly as possible. Statements regarding age, attribution, origin and provenance are offered in good faith and represent our professional opinion based on the information available at the time of listing.
As all of our items are antique or vintage, signs of age and use should be expected. Old repairs, knocks, wear, variations in colour and other minor imperfections are often part of a piece’s history and character. Where condition affects its integrity, appearance or usefulness, we will endeavour to make this clear in the description.
