17th century & later oak coffer/ chest of drawers
Dimensions
72cm high x 114cm wide x 58cm deep
Condition
There are marks, knocks and scratches commensurate with age and use. There are some minor losses to the decorative moulding, including a small piece of dentil moulding missing to the front and a shaped moulding missing at the bottom of each side. The top drawer has a later, nicely detailed removable lining. The bottom drawer has wear to the runners but both drawers run smoothly. The whole piece appears to have gone significant alteration or was possibly constructed from re-used timbers; evident particularly in the bottom drawer which appears to be constructed from two shallow drawers – although the topmost has little wear to the runners implying that this was carried out a long time ago.
