This is a commanding James I 17th century oak and marquetry inlaid coffer from circa 1620.
It has a quadruple-panelled lid enclosing a vacant interior. The front also has four panels, each with a marquetry-inlaid bog oak and holly floral motif. it has a flower-filled and guilloche-carved top rail and a nulled-carved base rail. It stands on extended stile supports.

Condition
There are various marks, dents, knocks and scratches commensurate with c. 400 years of age and use. Some of the marquetry inlay had been replaced but the majority is original. The butt hinges are replacements for the original iron pins and the top has been set slightly off centre.
